Have I strayed Wedding Wednesday away from "aspiring designers" enough for all of you? I guess I just get carried away with it all the beautiful wedding stuff. Hopefully you all enjoy it as well, because this is just so fun for me.

My search for cakes all started when I kept seeing cupcake wedding cakes. I wondered if people actually did that, and if this new trend was actually a good idea. I mean I just love cupcakes, but for a wedding cake? I just don't know about that.

I started off by looking at traditional wedding cakes. I love these ones, very classic!

My two fave circle cakes are below!

As much as I love the above cakes, I have always been one for a square wedding cake. I think they look incredibly chic.

(I love this one beyond belief!)

The next two I found are not traditional "square".

AND THEN - I came across square cupcakes! And honestly, who does square cupcakes like ever? So, this is definitely an incredible idea, and look at how amazing those square ones look!

While we are on the topic of square cupcakes, I found these which are just darling. I don't know about "wedding cake" material, but maybe a bridal shower or something. Still, these ones are great too.Ok, so I started looking out for cupcakes and found some equally cute ones. I love that each would have a little cake topper, and you can always put a mini cake for cutting, etc.

The good thing about cupcakes is that you can get a bunch of different flavors, colors, etc. which means you have a little bit more freedom to create exactly what you want.

So what do you think?
Cupcakes or traditional cake?

  1. a friend got married back in 1998 and i was going to go cake tasting with her.(never did and i can't imagine why?!?!?) but she wanted to do cupcakes back then and all the bakeries basically told her no!

  2. wow! I can't believe that. Now it is like the thing to do!

  3. I loooove looking at wedding cakes! Not only are they gorgeous to look at, but they make me hungry too! I also love the idea of cupcakes instead of one big wedding cake. I am not a big fan of the fondant and tons and tons of sugary frosting (am I a freak??) but little cupcakes seem just perfect.

  4. Thank you for this post! I'm in the process of planning my engagement party and the hardest part so far is cake! to cupcake or not to cupcake that is the question! :)

  5. Cupcakes every time. But no-on ever makes one with a ballet theme do they ?

  6. Such a GREAT POST! Just because I'm not getting married ANY TIME SOON doesn't mean that 1.) I'm bitter about it, or 2.) That I can't still LOVE CAKE.
    Happy Wednesday. XO!

  7. @living and loving in LA - I TOTALLY know what you mean :)

@Elise I looked for some-but they are all 13 year old looking ones. I am sure they have something though!

  8. beautiful cakes! i have been to weddings with both. i like the cupcakes for less formal weddings, the guests loved them too.

  9. i just went to wedding this weekend, i love wedding cake! so i gotta go with the cake. the cupcakes are super cute but dont seem as formal to me.

  10. I definitely agree-cupcakes are less formal for sure!

I love the idea of having cupcakes at an engagement party though! I am definitely going to do that! :)
