Follow Friday - Daydream Lily

For Twitter's Follow Friday I want to recommend some very influential blogger and tweeters! I want to go a step further and recommend great blogs to follow!

This week I am featuring Daydream Lily

I have had the honor of talking to the creator of Daydream Lily for the past couple of weeks! She has an incredibly successful blog with almost 2000 followers, a number of sponsors, and countless amazing blog posts! The greatest part of it all is that she still remains humbled by the whole thing, and is one of the nicest girls!

So, I got in touch with her about her blog, how she started it, the future of it, as well as some tips from her on how she got her blog up and running!

What is Daydream Lily about and what is the purpose of it?
Its a bit of a mix of art, photography, beautiful homes, vintage and a touch of fashion. With the common theme being a dreamy aesthetic that is a bit of a reflection of my own personality and taste.

What made you start blogging?
I started blogging as a way to meet and interact with other creative people. Id gone from Uni straight into a professional job and felt that I just wasn't being creative anymore. Art and Photography had been a huge part of my life growing up, I set up my own darkroom in high school just so I could do photography for my major artwork (the school I was at didn't have a darkroom). To begin with I had intended to create my own jewellery line and start selling it on Etsy, but that never really eventuated. I think I did a silversmithing course and then lost interest.

What inspires you to write?
Mainly beautiful images, I have a few photographers that I know I will always feel inspired after looking at their work. Like Sophie Takes Pictures, Hannah+Ladon, Sarah Hermans and Yyellowbird. Also frankie magazine, its my bible!

What are the future plans for Daydream Lily?
I've always dreamt of having my own online magazine but that's probably a long shot! Otherwise I want to pursue writing a bit more and start sharing some of my own photography.

What are you doing when not blogging?
Working at my professional job, what a lot of people don't know about me is that I'm a bit of a maths nerd too, I know not very creative! By day I work as a Statistician for a research organization working on a lot of environment and social studies. Otherwise I'm always reading, looking for new music loves, or playing with my collection of cameras, I now have 5.

What is a piece of advice you could give to people just starting their blog, or even veterans that need a bit of help?
The most important part of blogging to me is the community around it. Bloggers really are a supportive and an amazing bunch of people. So comment on blogs, don't be shy!! I've read on other blogging websites that leaving comments like "great post" or "beautiful images" is a bad thing. But I don't think that's necessarily true, I don't write huge chunks of text that you can analyze and write a witty response to, so great post or beautiful images is perfectly OK to me.

Also have a clean design and a nice header, I click over to heaps of blogs and if they are too busy or bad color choices I often just click straight back off again. I've always though we only have a small amount of time to leave a first impression and first impressions really do count!!!

For those who already have a blog going I would say read problogger, I have learned a lot about blogging from this site! Oh and blogrolls!! You must have a blogroll, link to blogs you like, because most bloggers have a sitemetre and they will know your linking and visit you. gosh I could go on more but I think I'll leave it at that.
