Diary of a Poshprenuer

The POSHpreneur

I started this post about a week ago, but never finished and posted it! After talking to her in the last couple of days (I wrote this before I had ever even talked to her !) I found that this was a very fitting post-and was much deserved by her!

I have to take a quick sec to thank this blogger. Her name is Clarissa and her blog is the "Diary of a Poshprenuer" This blog has been a huge inspiration to me. I have read every post (since I found it) and have yet to be disappointed by the content or the message of her blog. Her posts are so helpful! She is using her knowledge to help other people learn so they can turn around and be successful. She tells personal stories, business tips, and everything in between! It's just great.

I will recommend this blog to anyone-as it is the top for me! Thank you for all your help and all that you do with your blog!

Kcoline

KColine is the name behind this collection. Find more at http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5057540

The style, design and attention to detail of this artist, is what really pulled me in. The simplicity of the pieces make it easy for anyone to wear and not feel too over the top. Yet the edgy addition, such as the back of the skirt, make this designer's work worth talking about. Her shop is just full of pieces like this!

Not only are the pieces incredible, but the photography is done tastefully in a way to aid the communication of the piece. Photography is very important in the fashion industry, as a poor quality photograph doesn't forward the communication of the piece, and the reader ends up being distracted by the photo quality. She definitely has the designs down, as well as the photographs-which is a great combo! Her shop is full of pieces like the one's in the pictures above.

Wedding Wednesday

The products LAINE jewelry, as seen in the pictures below, are truly breathtaking.

I found these pieces a bit ago, and absolutely fell in love with them! They go beyond the word jewelry and represent a piece of fine art. This artist pays close attention to detail as seen in each piece. The attentiveness to detail and look of perfection are what made me want to do a post about this artist. Not only is she incredibly talented, but she is also a great person.

The line is not supposed to be a "wedding jewelry" collection, but I thought any of these pieces would create a fresh and different approach to the idea of wedding jewelry. The timeless design of each piece would finish off your wedding look in a simple and elegant manner. The jewelry would add a bit of color and flair to the dress and would create a perfect accent for the bride.

What do you think of her work? Let me know :)

History Lesson - YSL

History has brought us a long way. As we learn from it, we can grow from it. YSL is one of the most influential designers in history, so why not learn a bit about his story - and in turn gain some inspiration from his trip through life.

Yves Saint Laurent- The Early Years

Yves Saint Laurent was one of the most influential designers of his time, but he, just like everyone else, had to push through and show his creative style to come out on top.

Laurent was born in Algeria to a father who was the president of an insurance company, and a mother who did not work. Laurent was inspired by fashion at a young age, always wanting to express himself with it. He was greatly influenced by his mother, who was an example of pure class. Knowing fashion was his true passion, he attended a school for Couture design in Algeria. Shortly after starting, he realized that "learning" how to create and communicate a style is not how you design something wonderful. He wanted to learn through experience, so he left the school, and interviewed for a job at the Christian Dior Fashion House.

He was smart, able and creative. In 1957, with Dior nearing financial ruin, this was something the Dior fashion house needed very badly. He met personally with Dior who hired him on the spot after only spending 15 minutes talking to him. Shortly after starting, Dior said this about him, "After seeing his first collection I know he is the man who could change woman's clothes".

Just months after Laurent started working there, the sudden and unexpected death of Dior came. With the death of Dior, no one was certain how the house would survive even one more year. Laurent was appointed the lead designer of all Dior sketches, and so became in charge of the 1958 Dior collection. This collection became a sudden sensation. One item in particular, the trapeze dress, designed by Laurent, quickly became the newest fashion trend. Laurent's designs were meticulous and perfectly proportioned as Dior's designs had been. Some argued that Laurent's were actually better as he introduced softer, lighter and easier to wear clothing. Through that one collection alone, the Dior fashion house was saved.

The lines from then on were more daring and bold. Laurent loved the "Beat" look of 1950's and 1960's rock and roll. The Dior had the name on all the designs, but people fell in love with Laurent. The president of the fashion house at the time was furious, as Laurent was not supposed to become so internationally looked up to.

When Laurent was drafted into the French war in 1960, the management of the Dior fashion house raised no objection and sent him away. Laurent lasted 20 days in the war, but quickly became too traumatized by the death and destruction of war, that he quickly found himself in the French Mental Hospital being treated for a nervous breakdown by psychiatrists. The treatment he received included brain shock therapy and electric shock treatment, which aided his death years later.

As he had proven to be of no help to the army, he was released in 1962. He went back to Dior to continue on his path of designing, but was let go shortly after returning as he continued to have nervous breakdowns.

Out on his own, he and his lover at the time, created their own company-"YSL" featuring all Laurent's original designs. This was just the start of the company internationally known today.

Go to the website and read about it! Then put the icon on your blog and become part of the club!

HUMF!

Today I came across something very interesting, and I don't really know how to respond to it!

I have been building up my brand and what I am trying to communicate and do for some time now. I have been very good about internet ethics. An example would be, don't steal someone's idea, their twitter friends, etc. Or give credit to the person who posted a link for you to see, etc. I don't feel it's right to rip people off and take their ideas especially in the internet world since it is so easy to "take someone's identity" so to speak.

Now today I found a blogger who is doing pretty much the same thing as me. There are some definite differences in it, but I feel like part of it is imposing in my idea. Now, I am pretty sure the idea wasn't taken from me. This I could pretty much count on. BUT, do i allow him to follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Delicious, etc? Do I help him and give him support to his idea, or is that just going to feed him with material for him and take it away from me?

CONTEST TIME!

I thought it would be a perfect time for a contest. What do you think? Ok, so here it is!

This contest is for designers and sellers mainly. You will win FREE ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION of your company through my blog and other online networks!

All you need to do is this:

1. Retweet this game (@aspiringcouture so I know!)

2. Post in the comment box a link showing pictures of pieces you have created. In the comment box below this link post a blurb about what you want to communicate through your works of art and what inspires you. ( If you can figure out how to post a picture directly in the comment box, you can do that too!)

By doing this you are already exposing yourself to people who may not have otherwise seen your work, so whether you win or don’t win-you are still getting yourself out there! The winner will receive a blog post of their work with anything they want to add to it-as well as further promotion from me!

The last day to enter is June 1st. We will announce the winner on June 2.

Why not sign up when you will win either way!

Looking forward to this.

Breaking the Writer's Block

There are so many chances to just fall, and honestly, I don't think it's worth it to live life trying to please everyone, or trying to be invisible!

My whole thought behind Aspiring Couture is to find those people who are talented and not give them the chance to fall in the background. I have recently been so inspired by the work I have seen from up-and-coming designers! It's just incred!

I will start having pictures soon ! Tons. Oh and video! I want to do interviews, photo shoots, etc :) its about to get really fun. I just have to stop stopping myself and getting the darn show on the road!
